Live 8

Live 8 is already underway. Television coverage doesn't start until Noon on MTV and VH1, and ABC will have highlights tonight from 8 - 10pm. You can see it all live from around the world at http://music.aol.com/. I'd say the biggest thing I'm looking forward to is to the reunited Pink Floyd, but I'm sure there will be lots of surprises through out the day.

Live 8 was cool enough but what stood out most to me was how horrible MTV's coverage was. Watching this online was definatley the way to go. The television coverage was so frustrating with all the ads, and idiotic VJs. They rarely even showed a complete song, let alonge a complete set by anybody. MTV even cut to commercials in the middle of Pink Floyd after hyping them all day long. I had forgotten how they did the same thing back at Live Aid to Led Zep. The web has put another nail in the coffin of commercial television.

Wow - I'm shocked. MTV listens!

Fri Jul 8, 7:22 AM ET
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - After a drubbing from critics, MTV and VH1 will rerun 10 hours of coverage of the Live 8 concert events without commercials on Saturday.

VH1 will carry the first five hours from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., while MTV will carry the second leg from 3-8 p.m.

MTV was roundly assailed by pundits and critics for the frequent commercial breaks and other interruptions during its live coverage of the July 2 concerts.

"In the wake of our coverage, our viewers have resoundingly told us online they want to see full performances from their favorite artists," MTV Networks Music Group president Van Toffler said Thursday.
